THE BODIE SCHOOL HOUSE
The discovery of Gold on Bodie Bluffs by Wm. S. Bodey in
1859 with the subsequent yield of $80,000,000.00 during
the life of its mines, was the start of the thriving mining
camp of Bodie. This school employed three teachers. The
Principal kept order with a long slim poker.
The Brick building behind the school was the sub-station
for the famous Thomas A. Edison's first long distance
power line from Green Creek to Bodie. Edison's line ran
straight, between the two points, regardless of obstacles,
as it was believed in the first days of electricity, that the
voltage would bounce off the lines on the turns.
