The pueblo of Santo Domingo is located on
the east bank of the Rio Grande River, two and
a half miles west of Thornton, N. M., on the
Santa Fe. The streets, four in number, three
running at right angles to the river, are very
broad and extremely picturesque. Here and
there are the native ovens, piles of firewood, and
the rude kilns for firing the pottery. In one of
the streets rises the great circular wall of the
Estufa, with its ladder beams projecting far
above the tops of the surrounding houses. There
are many interesting features in this quaint
old town, among them an old Spanish mission
church in a fair state of preservation.
