World's first nuclear-powered merchant ship, the sleek
N. S. SAVANNAH travels to ports of the world as an
example of the peaceful uses of atomie energy. Carrying
up to 60 passengers and 10,000 tons of Rango she can
operate at cruising speed for 31/2 years without refueling.
N. S. SAVANNAH was built as joint project of the
Maritime Administration, U. S. Department of Commerce,
and the Atomic Energy Commission, and is 2perated by
American Export Isbrandtsen Lines as the Generat Agent.
Her length is 595 ft. cruising speed 21 khots ... full
load displacement of 21,850 tons.
