Gillette Castle patterned after a Rhinish for-
tress, started in 1914, erected by Porteus-Walk-
er Co. of Hartford, was designed and super-
vised in every detail by its builder-owner, Wil-
liam Gillette. Friends donations added to State
funds enabled it to become a Connecticut State
Park.
