CENTRAL CONN. POWER AND LIGHT CO'S SWITCH TOWER AND POWER HOUSE ON SALMON RIVER AT LEESVILLE, CONN.
Back:
Submerged under ten feet of water in the pond be-
low is the ancient wooden dam built of huge trees
felled by the early settlers who harnessed the
Falls of the Salmon River to grind corn, saw logs,
spin wool and otherwise serve the needs of the
little isolated settlement which was the trading
center for a radius of five to ten miles. With the
coming of rail transportation this tidal port lost
its industries and Leesville serves a still greater
use in producing electricity for all kinds of pur-
poses in the near, as well as distant, towns of
Glastonbury, Colchester, Haddam and Higganum
-a population of 15,000 scattered over an area of
200 square miles.
