Additional Details:
London Series 7924 National Gallery. The National Gallery on the north of Trafalgar Square was erected, at a cost of £96,000, in 1832-38 on the site of the old King's Mews. The Gallery was altered and enlarged in 1860. Its original collection of pictures has been much extended by donations, legacies, and purchases, and four collections were presented or bequeathed between 1846 and 1871, of which Turner's is one. The older Italian masters are splendidly represented. |
