The Albert Hall. This vast amphitheatre (in Italian
Renaissance style) was built in 1867-71 at an outlay of
£200,000, partly at public cost, partly from the proceeds of
the Exhibition of 1851. Its arena will seat 1,000 persons;
its amphitheatre, 1,360; its balcony and picture-gallery,
3,800 more. Its organ, built by Willis, is one of the largest
in the world.
