Manned continuously by soldiers as a defense against
Indians, this was one of the first block houses in
the North Country. The five originals, sentinels of
Fort Mackinac, still overlook the harbor. Built by
the British in 1780, Fort Mackinac is one of the most
historic spots on the Island.
