PORTLAND HEAD LIHT. The most promi-
nent as well as the most picture que of Portland's harbor
lights. The oldest light on the Atlantic Coast. Lighted for
the first time on January 10, 1791, it has burned nightly for
over one hundred years to mark the narrow ship channel
which leads to "The Natural Seaport." It stands on that
noble promontory, Portland Head, and is in full view from
the eastern end of the city. 160.
