MAINE'S MASSACHUSETTS HOUSE
Maine's Massachusetts House of Lincolnville, Maine,
on Route 1 midway between Camden and' Belfast,
where Maine handicrafts are sold all through the year,
takes its name from and is modeled after the histori-
cal house located diagonally across the road and built
about the year 1718. It was known as the Massa-
chusetts House because it remained in that state until
after the division was effected making the two states
of Maine and Massachusetts. The front room of the
Workshop has the same small-paned windows, beamed
ceiling and generous fireplace as the little old house.
Corner cupboards and Welsh dressers of driftwood
grey with old pine furniture provide the atmosphere
of that far-off time when all Americans were crafts-
men.
