VIEW ON MERRIMAC RIVER. This stream, to which
Manchester owes its industrial prosperity, was discovered by
Sieur de Champlain, June 17, 1605, and was first named
"Riviere du Gas". From the lofty surrounding eminences
the forest and valley views are exceedingly interesting, and
the outlooks on the river itself, including the Amoskeag Falls,
the great manufacturing plants, summer residences and re-
creation resorts, are grand indeed.
