UPPER COMMON. The city of Fitchburg about 6 1/2
miles long and 4 1/2 miles wide, covering a little over
18,000 acres. In the heart of the city there are three parks
or commons, called Upper Common, Lower Common, and
Monument Park. Upper Common is at the upper end of
Main Street, and contains a fountain designed by Herbert
Adams, a resident of Fitchburg during his youth.
