Old First Church of Bennington
VERMONT’S COLONIAL SHRINE
Old First Church of Bennington, named Ver-
mont's Colonial Shrine by Vermont Legisla-
ture, the first church established in the New
Hampshire Grants, organized December 3, 1762.
The present structure, the most beautiful
Georgian church in New England, was erected
in 1805-6 by Lavius Fillmore, second cousin of
President Fillmore.
