BRIDGING THE GOLDEN GATE
This view from San Francisco toward the Marin
Shore, shows the Golden Gate Bridge as it will
look when completed, January 1937. Approximate
cost $35,000,000. Length of main structure 8940
feet. Height of towers above water, 746 feet.
Minimum vertical clearance above mean high water
is 220 feet. Main span 4200 feet. Total width
90 feet, divided into six lanes for vehicular traffic
and two ten and a half foot side walks. This is
the largest bridge of its kind in the world. The
grand total length including approaches embraced
within the project is seven miles.
