Dating back to 1868, Wallerstein's is one of the
few Paducah concerns founded in the post Civil War
era, which is still operating. Here, Irvin S. Cobb, be-
loved writer of numerous tales of fiction, bought his
first pair of short pants, and later, his first pair of
long ones. Here too, as a young cub reporter, Cobb
spent much of his time with friends and cronies, stor-
ing up choice bits of character which he later incor-
porated in many of his stories.
