Dating back to 1868, Wallerstein's is one of the few Paducah concerns founded in the post Civil war era, which is still operating. Here, Irvin S. Cobb, beloved writer of numerous tales of fiction, bought his first pair of short pants, and later, his first pair of long ones. Here too, as a young cub reporter, Cobb spent much of his time with friends and cronies, storing up choice bits of character which he later incorporated in many of his stories.
