YE OLDE HOTEL NACHUSA
Erected in 1838-Rebuilt in 1858, 1871, 1914, 1936
THERE'S a haven in a tavern famous as the tourist's joy, on a river
swirling, curling, through the plains of Illinois. There the drummer
finds his solace in a modern hotel palace, rich, luxurious, antique, curious,
marked with fame and ancient lore, holding history in store for its great
men by the score. On the pages of the past, we find great men from first to
last, who have made our country known throughout every land and zone.
There stood Lincoln, grand and great, when he tussled in debate with the
"little giant" Stephen, with the honors almost even. Here the name of poet
Holmes, down the list is Jenkin Jones, higher up the name of Grant, Madam
Patti with her chant. Here they supped and dined of old, guarded in the
landlord's fold. Five score wearing years deface, but the tavern, keeping
pace, does the modern modes embrace. Art has worked its wondrous change,
science brings convenience strange, till the spirits of the dead, should they
now engage a bed at this tavern óf tradition, would succumb to superstition.
Neatness, comfort, food and beauty, given from a sense of duty, to the worn
and weary farer, no place like it, nothing rarer. Up-to-date, with all things
nice, furnished by the landlord, Rice.

tained at the NACHUSA HOTEL, Dixon, Illinois.
