HAMPDEN ACADEMY. This institution was in-
corporated by the state of Massachusetts on March 7th, 1803.
On April 13 th. 1815, a union was effected with the Maine
Charity School, but after three years the connection was
dissolved. The Academy building was entirely destroyed by
fire on Feb. 24 th, 1842, and a house of brick was built at a
cost of $1125. Few schools have been as successful and few
have been held in higher esteem than Hampden Academy.
