ENTRANCE TO FORT MARION. Fort Marion, an
ancient fortress on the Matanzas River, is an important, Spanish
relic, formerly known as "San Marco". Originally built in
1565, it was destroyed by Sir Francis Drake in 1586, and the
present fort was finished in 1756. This view shows the old
Spanish coat-of-arms over the door.
