Baltimore, September 21 to October 8 This is the tenth of a series of twelve paintings in full color that Herbert D. Scott of Baltimore has made for the covers of the Baltimore and Ohio Magazine for the Centenary Year of the Railroad now being celebrated. It depicts in the foreground the "York" built by Phineas Davis of York, Pa. and winner of a prize of $4,000 offered in 1830 by the directors of the Baltimore and Ohio for the best locomotive submitted for practical work on the railroad. The engine looming dreamlike in the background is typical of the modern massive flyer.
