The Escalante at Ash Fork is constructed of re-
inforced concrete, and patterned after one of the old
California Missions. It is named after one of the
Spaniards of the conquest, Padre Silvestre Velez
Escalante, a pioneer Franciscan priest, who journey-
ed through Arizona in 1776. Ash Fork lies under
a turquoise-blue Arizona sky at an altitude of 5,129
feet.
