ARMED FORCES INSTITUTE OF PATHOLOGY
The Armed Forces Institute of Pathology serves
as the central laboratory of pathology for the
Department of Defense. Its broad missions are:
consultation, education and research. The Insti-
tute is located at 14th Street and Alaska Avenue
N.W., Washington, D.C. Its staff is made up of
members of the medical services of the Armed
Forces and civilians in federal employment. Com-
bined in this one building are activities usually
found separately in hospitals, research labora-
tories, educational centers, office buildings, and
even television studios. This distinctive eight-
story building, half underground and window-
less, is completely air conditioned.
