UNITED STATES POST OFFICE
Mesilla, New Mexico
The Post Office building is the site of Mexico's
frontier Fort under Gen. Angel Trias, later
governor of Chihuahua. Its troopers protected
settlers, wagon train caravans and stage-
coaches from murderous Apaches and robbers
until 1854 when Mesilla became United States
territory under the Gadsden Purchase Treaty.
