FORT DEFIANCE, Defiance, Ohio. This view is old
Fort Defiance, the site and earthworks where "Mad Anthony"
Wayne in 1794 once stood and said of the fort, "I defy the English,
the Indians, and all the devils in hell to take it." Thus was the city
of Defiance, the birthplace of Pontiac, named. This area includes
picnic grounds, swimming pool, and playground at Kingsbury
Park. Just east of Defiance is Independence State Park, a favorite
site for picnics. Other attractions within the 400 acre state park are
fine bass fishing and one of the few perfectly preserved canal locks
in Ohio.
