PROPER STABILITY
The top section of the illustration
shows a plank screwed down on two sup-
ports. No matter where the load or force
is exerted on this plank, it still remains
fixed. So it is with a person's natural
teeth.
The center and bottom section show a
plank, not screwed down but resting freely on its two supports... just as
in artificial dentures. If the load or force is kept within or on the sup-
ports, the plank will remain stable. As soon as the load or force gets
beyond the support, the plank will tilt. The same applies to artificial
restorations.
The ridges in the mouth correspond to the supports illustrated and the
same mechanical laws apply. If you want denture stability, the teeth must
be so designed and set that the forces exerted against them will pass
through the center of the ridge or lingual to it.
Dr. French's Modified Posteriors are designed so that the forces ex-
erted against them do pass through the center of the ridge or lingual to
it-and without encroaching on the tongue space. In this way we make
sure of denture stability. Write for new, illustrated technic booklet show-
ing how.
