Single-engine U-2 with sailplane-like wings was designed for surveil-
lance missions in thin atmosphere above 55,000 feet altitude. Their
use was secret until 1966 when Francis Gary Powers was shot down
over Russia while on a non-USAF recon flight. U-2A displayed at
USAF Museum, W-PAFB, Ohio was last -A model built.
