Titan Missile in Propulsion Wind Tunnel, Arnold Engineering Development Center
Additional Details:
Missile flight on the ground. This is a scale model of the US Air Force's Titan intercontinental ballistic missile installed in the 16-foot transonic test section of the Propulsion Wind Tunnel, one of the three major laboratories of the Arnold Engineering Development Center, midway between Chattanooga and Nashville, Tennessee. The missile, equipped with burning rocket engines, can be tested at conditions simulating speeds up to 1,400 mph and to nearly 100,000 feet. The tunnel is one of 22 testing units at this wind tunnel center of the USAF's Air Research and Development Command. Dexter Press, Inc. |
