NO. 8. STUART MONUMENT,
(MONUMENT AVE. AND LOMBARDY ST.,)
RICHMOND, VA.
Genl. J. E. B. Stuart was mortally wounded May 11,
1864 at Yellow Tavern, a few miles N. E. of Richmond,
while defending the City from an attack by Federal troops
under Genl. Sheridan.
This monument, a splendid tribute to the memory of the
South's intrepid Cavalry leader, was unveiled in May 1907;
it was designed by Fred Moynihan, of N. Y. City. On
the left is shown the beautiful building of the First English
Lutheran Church, and in the distance may be discerned the
celebrated monument to Genl. Robt. E. Lee.
