SAN ONOFRE NUCLEAR
GENERATING STATION
Located on the Pacific Coast five miles south
of San Clemente, California, this station, which
went into commercial operation January, 1968,
has a generating capacity of 450,000 kilowatts
- enough power to supply a city of more than
half-million population. The plant was built by
two investor owned utilities, Southern California
Edison and San Diego Gas & Electric, The two
companies share costs and output of the station
Edison, 80%, and San Diego Gas & Electric,
20%.
