Grants, New Mexico, was situated on the
Old Pony Express Trail to the Pacific Coast in
pioneer days. It was a station for change of
ż horses, wagon trains and mail, and was
named for President Ulysses S. Gront when
he was General of the U.S. Army.
Today, Grants (the s being adopted) is a
progressive little city on Highway 66 about
half-way between Albuquerque and Gallup,
N. M. Nestling in the foothills of Mt. Tayler,
it is picturesquely surrounded by Spanish-
American and Indian villages. Lumbering,
mining and farming are carried on exten-
sively, irrigation from the Bluewater Dam pro-
ducing many trainloads of choice vegetables
yearly.
