The Washington National Airport, located on Gravelly Point on the Mount Vernon Boulevard between Washington and Alexandria, Va., is the third largest airport in the world, exceeded only by New York and Chicago. It was built at a cost of $15,000,000 and was opened to full time operation June 16, 1941.
