OLD BELL
SHAWS FLAT, Tuolumne County, CALIFORNIA
Shipped from the East via the Horn in 1850. Bought by the
miners' donations for an alarm in case of an emergency.
The bell was used by miners as a signal so all could
begin and stop work at the same time, and also used to
call miners to judge lynchings.
