This unique memorial is located at Fort Defiance
State Park, Cairo, III. Visible in the picture is the
Ohio River, looking upstream, showing the river
bridge from Cairo to the Kentucky shoreline. Fort
Defiance has always been a strategic post since
early Colonial times through the Civil War. It is
located at the southern tip of Illinois at the
confluence of the Mississippi and Ohio Rivers.
