BRIDGEPORT, CALIFORNIA
Bridgeport, county seat of Mono County, is located in a
valley ringed by snow-covered peaks. Until 1864 Bridgeport
was a grass covered valley, in summer, where cattle grazed
and snow swept it in the winter. The inhabitants were amazed
to learn that their county seat, located at Aurora, was in Neva-
da. Hurriedly the papers were transferred to a camp along the
Walker River, later to be called, Bridgeport. Today, with little
to no mining, the town subsists on tourist patronage and the
farm trade . . M. P.
