At the head of sheltered Narragansett Bay,'
the PORT OF PROVIDENCE is visited by
thousands of ships from all over the world
each year. This scene at the Municipal Wharf
shows a ship being loaded with scrap metal
destined for a faraway port. The PORT OF
PROVIDENCE handles as much as 13 million
tons of commodities a year ranging from
lumber, automobiles, newsprint, chemicals,
petroleum products, steel, etc.
