A NAVAJO.
Very little is known of the early history of
the Navajo. He seems of Athabascan stock and
closely related to a number of tribes dwelling
a ong the banks of the Mackenzie River in the
North. The Navajo, sce immigrating to the
Southwest, by contact with other tribes, has ab-
sorbed some of their characteristics. Their
principal art is blanket weaving, which they
learned from Pueblo women captured in war.
They are also famous silversmiths.
