Hilo Hotel was acquired by George Lycurgus in
1908. A small cottage in the rear built sometime
in 60's had served as King Kalakaua's "Summer
Palace" used by the monarch for poker and
relaxation when they wanted to escape from the
pressures of life in Honolulu.
