Eng. #I, Tanana Valley Ry. Built by H. K. Porter, Pittsburg, Pa.,
in 1887; builders number 1972. Narrow gauge. Came by boat around
Cape Horn to St. Michaels; then transferred to a barge and towed
up the Yukon River II76 miles in the spring of 1905, and used
in constructing Tanana Mines Ry. between Chena and Fairbanks,
and in 1906 ran on a regular schedule between those points. Was
also used in construction on the line between Happy and Nenana.
Had 9x12 cyls. 30 in. drivers. Became the property of the U. S.
when it took over the line in 1915. Now on a piece of track at
south end of depot at Fairbanks, Alaska.
