This splendid office building, Richmond's
first "sky-scraper" was erected in 1906, at a
cost of over $900,000 by the fire insurance
company whose name it bears. The "Old
Mutual" is the oldest existing corporation
in Virginia; its charter having been granted
in 1794 and contains many unique features
such as making its
premiums a first lien
upon the premises insured. It contains about
304 offices, is 13 stories high, and 185 feet in
height.
