The representatives of the two English parties in Amer-
ica are found in the Puritan settlers of New England and
in the Cavalier settlers of Maryland and Virginia.
Colonial Annapolis, and the homes of the Barons of Mary-
land, still preserved intact (many of which exceed in pro-
portions the largest residences of this period), reflect the
social life of Colonial America unrestrained by Puritan in-
fluences, as nowhere else in the country.
