Firestone Automatic Curing Molds After all the component parts of the tire have been assembled--high-stretch Gum-Dipped cords--plies--beads--two Extra Gum-Dipped Cord Plies under the Tread--and the Tread Rubber itself--the tire is placed in a gigantic curing mold. In this final important operation, the tire is forced by 43 tons pressure into the Firestone non-skid tread pattern engraved in the steel mold and vulcanized by steam at 270° F.
