The Hotel Charlotte occupies the site of the
Eagle Hotel, built in 1838; destroyed by fire
in 1862. It was the most pretentious struc-
ture in the county, housing also the court
house and jail. The Charlotte built in 1863
was for many years known as the Phenix;
later as the Charlotte. Mr. & Mrs. John USEP 16
