Isle Royale, located in northern Lake Superior, be-
came a National Park on April 1, 1940. It is the inten-
tion of the National Park Service that the Isle shall
always have its wilderness flavor and atmosphere. Moose
roam here, protected, and visitors continue to have fre-
quent opportunities to see these splendid animals. Isle
Royale is 18 miles from the Minnesota coastline, and
about 45 miles from the copper country tip of Upper
Michigan. No roads mar the wilderness of the Isle,
and inland points of interest are reached by beautiful
winding trails.
