The Clan Sinclair. This clan is descended from the
Comte de Saint Claire, one of the Norman nobles, who
came to England with William the Conqueror in 1066.
They obtained various grants of lands from the Crown, and
throughout the centuries maintained a position of influence
in the government of Scotland. They have been a family
of particular distinction. The chief was made Earl of
Orkney, and later Earl of Caithness. Their badge is
"Whin."
