THE LOBBY OF THE NEWS is a source of interest
and wonder to thousands of visitors daily. It cost approxi-
mately $200,000. On the floor is a gigantic compass, show-
ing 58 principal cities and their relative distances from New
York. The walls are of black glass and reach to four stories
above. In a sunken well, illuminated from beneath, a huge
globe of the world - 12 feet in diameter, weighing 2 tons-
revolves slowly on an axis. Seventeen panels containing
weather and meteorological instruments and charts encircle
the walls. The News Lobby is open at all hours of the day
and night.
