These curious, conical-shaped, outdoor ovens
used in the Southwest by the Indians and many of
the Mexicans were probably borrowed from the
Spaniards. They are built of brush, plastered over
inside and out with thick coatings of adobe mud,
and last, with the constant repairs made on them,
almost indefinitely. They are built outdoors for
several reasons, the main one being to do away with
the heat resulting during the warm weather.
