GENERAL ROBERT E. LEE. Robert Edward Lee
was bern at Stratford, Va. on Jan. 19th, 1807, He attended
the West Point Military Academy for four years, was in the
Mexican War, and during the Civil War was at the head of
the Confederate Army. In June, 1831, Lee was married to
Mary Custis, the great-granddaughter of Mrs. Geo. Washington.
He died on Oct. 12th, 1870, and his remains lie iu a vault in
the chapel of Washington and Lee University, Lexington, Va.,
of which institution he was president at the time of his death.
