TULARE, CALIFORNIA was founded in 1872 as a division
point on the railroad. In 1883 a fire destroyed a great part
of the town. Rebuilt by 1886, it was again mowed down
by fire. Again in 1891 it was dealt another blow when
after a yearly pay roll of $40,000 in $20.00 gold pieces
the railroad shops moved to Bakersfield. With this income
stopped the citizens developed the land and today has the
world's largest peach ranch and is an important fruit
center. It is the gateway to the Sequoia National Park...
