Additional Details:
It was near this spot that Perry built 10 huge wagons in 1883 to haul borax from the Harmony Borax Works in Death Valley to the railroad in Mojave. The road went up Wingate Pass and across the desert to Mojave. The camps were set up every 16 miles, a day's travel when loaded with borax. On the return trip water and feed was hauled to the camps along with water that was left in 500 gal. water tanks. In 1887 large quantities of cheap borax came from Italy that soon closed the Death Valley operation. The wagons were so well built that in five years of operation there was not one single break-down.
