Derid Dises Porter
David G. Farragut, 1801-1870, entered the Navy as a boy,
rose to be Captain in 1855, at the outbreak of the Civil War
attached himself to the Union, was the first man to be raised
to the rank of Admiral in the American Navy.
David D. Porter, 1813-1891, entered the Mexican Navy,
joined U. S. Navy after defeat by Spanish in 1826. No
American Naval officer saw more continuous fighting during
the Civil War, or in any other conflict, than Porter saw
between the years 1861-1865.
