CENTENNIAL
The "HAWKEYE STATE" formed
part of the Louisiana Purchase and was governed suc-
cessively by the Territorial Governments of Missouri,
Michigan, and Wisconsin. Became a separate territory
July 4, 1838. Admitted as a state on Dec. 28, 1846.
IOWA was the name of a tribe of American Indians
belonging to the Siouan family. Des Moines is the
Capital. Agriculture forms the chief occupation.
